Lawn Care Services
Regular Mowing
Our principal service is the mowing of your lawn accompanied by regular line trimming, metal blade edging and tidying up by blowing all clippings off hard surfaces. We maintain our equipment to assure we are always cutting with freshly sharpened blades. This is important, because your lawn looks better, and the health of your turf is improved when the top one third of the blade of grass is removed cleanly rather than torn off, which occurs when dull blades are used. When grass blades are torn, this exposes more of their outer surface to attack by pests and may make it harder for the grass to retain moisture needed for growth. While regular weekly maintenance throughout the growing season goes a long way to improving the appearance and health of your outdoor space, there are many other services we provide, that further enhance your property and add to its value. Our price for basic lawn maintenance is determined based on the square footage of turf to be mowed. The charge for most other occasional or unique landscape services described below is based on our personal inspection of the work to be performed, for which a free separate quote is provided.
Leaf Clean-Up
When fall arrives so do the leaves. We will remove leaves from your gardens and flower beds by blowing or raking them to the mowed areas. If the downed leaves are not excessively heavy, we recommend using our professional mulching mowers to pulverize them and allow the mulched leaves to remain in place as natural nutrients to feed the lawn. They are a great form of natural fertilizer. To sufficiently pulverize the leaf material to be left as natural lawn fertilizer, multiple passes of the mowers are sometimes required, however, when we are finished, we are confident you will be happy with the final results, as will your naturally nourished lawn. When necessary we can remove the leaves for off-site disposal, but for the reasons mentioned, we discourage this when possible.
Aeration and Over-seeding
In the St. Louis area fall is considered the best time of year to aerate and over seed your lawn. While this type of service is sometimes performed at other times, grass planted in the spring often is not well enough established to thrive during the hot summer months. Aeration in the fall using hollow tine aerators that actually remove soil plugs helps reduce compaction and thatch build up and provides necessary places for new seed to make good contact with the soil thereby promoting its healthy growth. Providing this service in September and early October allows the new grass to become better developed and more likely to survive our hot summers. Flower Bed Clean-up & Mulching
Early spring is a great time to clean out flower beds before new growth commences if possible. For bed edges not clearly defined by hardscape materials, we start by sculpting the edges using sharp flat bladed spades to cut clean lines around the bed area. Selective pruning of last year’s growth may be needed along with removal of leaves and debris accumulated over the winter. After cleanup is completed, fresh hard wood mulch is applied if requested. Mulch not only improves the appearance of your property, it also reduces the growth of weeds, cools the underlying soil, and helps retain moisture needed during the hot months. Mid to late summer the beds may need to be freshened again by pulling weeds and doing further pruning.
Planting
We are available to help you plant flowers, for which we usually charge by the flat or number of plants to be placed.
Tree Trimming of Low-hanging Branches
We use our professional grade pole trimmers, loppers, and when necessary a chain saw to remove branches that restrict views and make mowing of larger properties more difficult and time consuming. These trimming services are only offered in areas where we can reach vegetation to be trimmed by safely standing on the ground.
Bed and Garden Perimeters
Your flower beds and gardens will usually look nicer if their perimeter is well defined by hardscape edges. This can be achieved by installation of metal, plastic, rubberized or hardscape edging materials such as pavers and stones.
Hedge Trimming
We provide hedge trimming services. We find that newly planted hedges, such as in new residential developments, often require formative pruning, usually done in the winter or spring for the first couple of years. Thereafter, established hedges will usually need one time per year pruning which is usually performed over the spring and summer.
